FAQ

A registered player can create a Group and invite other registered players to join. To set up a Group Play, a Group Captain must create a Group Pack from which a Group Member can purchase a ticket.

The Group Captain will select the host game, number of plays, and optional number of ENCORE for the Group Pack.

A Group Member can then purchase a ticket from a preselected Group Pack for upcoming draws to participate in that Group Play.Group Members who have bought a ticket from a Group Pack for a draw will be entitled to an equal share of any winnings that result from that Group Play. This includes any winnings for the first draw, or Free Play tickets that result from that draw.

A Group can have more than one Group Pack.

First, ensure that you Log in or Sign Up to OLG.ca or through the OLG App. You can then participate in Group Play by either being a Group Captain and creating a Group, or as a Group Member by joining a Group that you have been invited to by a Group Captain. You must then purchase a single ticket from a Group Pack as configured by the Group Captain.

It’s fun to play as a Group – where you can play together and win together! More tickets purchased also means more chances to win. The Group Play platform on OLG.ca or the OLG App is easy to use. Group Captains do not have to collect funds on behalf of the group or coordinate the payout of any winnings. If your Group wins, the system automatically splits the prize equally between the Group Members that participated in the Group Play.

After logging in to your player account, a Group can be created through the Lottery tab by selecting Group Play, My Groups then Create A Group. On the OLG App select Group Play from the home screen then select Create a Group. You can then enter a Group Name and Group Size to create your Group. The person who creates the Group becomes the Group Captain of the Group.

A Group Captain may change the Group Name at any time.

Once you create a Group, you will be provided with a link to share with individuals that you would like to invite. This link will also be available on the “Members” tab of your Group. Individuals must either log in or sign up for a player account, then click on the link to join. Only Group Captains can view and copy the link from OLG.ca or the OLG App.

Group Captains should only send invitations to persons with whom they have an existing personal or family relationship. Group Captains are always responsible to comply with the requirements of Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (“CASL”). For more information on CASL visit: https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/internet/anti.htm

A Group Captain can set a Group Size for a Group, up to a maximum of 50.

A Group Captain may change the Group Size at any time, but it cannot exceed the maximum of 50 Group Members.

The Group Captain has the authority to remove Group Members. A Group Captain can go to the Members tab in a Group and click on “Remove” next to the Group Member that they want to remove from the Group. If a Group Member is removed, they will still have access to view the Group History for Group Plays that they participated in. Additionally, if a Group Member is removed from a Group, they will remain entitled to any Prize Share for Group Plays they participated in prior to their removal from the Group.

A Group Pack is the configuration of plays for a Host Product and optional ENCORE that a Group Member must purchase as a single ticket to participate in a Group Play.

A Group Captain is responsible for creating Group Packs from which Group Members can purchase tickets for Group Play. On OLG.ca or the OLG App, visit the Group for which you are Group Captain, click on “Create Group Pack” and follow the steps to set up your Group Pack.

There is no limit to how many Group Packs that the Group Captain can configure.

Available Host Products include LOTTO MAX, LOTTO 6/49, ONTARIO 49, and LOTTARIO. You can add up to 10 ENCORE plays to each Group Pack. Each Group Pack can have only 1 Host Product.

Group Play subscriptions work in the same way as a normal draw subscription. During a Group Pack purchase, Group Members are offered the option to subscribe for the Group Pack using either Never Miss a Draw or Multi-Draw to subscribe to a set number of draws.

A subscription can be cancelled through the My Transaction History tab from the Player Profile drop down on OLG.ca. You can go to My Transaction History -> Lottery -> Subscriptions to see the list of lottery Subscriptions. The Group Play Subscriptions are distinguished with a GP icon. Select the Group Play Subscription you would want to cancel and click Cancel Subscription.

On the OLG App, select the Menu on bottom right corner of the home page and go to My Tickets and Subscriptions. Select the Subscription tab to view all Active Subscriptions. Select the Subscription you want to Cancel to be directed to the Subscription detail screen. Scroll down and select Cancel Subscription.

If a Group Play Subscription purchase fails, the Player will get a notification email confirming Subscription purchase fail and the Member will not be eligible for the upcoming draw unless rectified in time for the draw. The notification email will include details on how a Member with a failed Group Play Subscription purchase can still do a manual Group Play purchase to participate in the upcoming draw. "Any manual purchases made in this manner will not count towards your subscription purchase."

A Group Member who has purchased a single ticket from a Group Pack will be entitled to an equal share of any winnings that result from that Group Play. This includes any winnings for the first draw, or Free Play tickets that result from that draw. A Group Prize will be divided equally by the number of Group Members who bought tickets from a Group Pack for the applicable draw. Group Members who did not purchase a ticket from a Group Pack for a given draw will not be entitled to any winnings from that Group Play.

To the extent any Group Prize cannot be divided exactly equally amongst Group Members who bought tickets from a Group Pack for the applicable draw, OLG will distribute any residual amounts to these Group Members in the order in which each Group Member purchased a Ticket as part of the relevant Group Pack, as determined solely by OLG.

Any Group Member who bought into a Group Play (i.e., they purchased a ticket from a Group Pack for a specific draw) will be entitled to a share in any Free Plays that are won. If the Free Play wins a subsequent Free Play which wins a reward, then all the Group Members who bought the original Group Pack are eligible for equal share in the winnings. Group Members who did not purchase a ticket from a Group Pack for the draw that resulted in Free Plays will not be entitled to any winnings from those Free Plays.

Prize Shares for an individual Group Member under $1,000.00 will be awarded online to their player account wallet.

Group Members must submit a Lottery Prize Claim Declaration (LPCD) Form online for any win that results in their Prize Share being $1,000 or over. If the amount is over $1,000 but less than $100,000, the prize will be awarded online to the eligible player’s wallet once the LPCD form is successfully processed. If the amount is equal to or above $100,000, then the player must claim the prize in-person at the OLG Prize Centre. The player will receive a cheque from the Prize Centre once their claim is processed.
